GridUp is RMI’s publicly accessible, state-of-the-art forecasting tool that helps utilities and stakeholders determine when, where, and in what quantities energy and power demands will materialize from vehicle electrification. The tool provides census-block level granularity and enables users to explore different EV adoption scenarios, charger deployment strategies, and economic conditions. GridUp captures interdependencies between charging infrastructure deployment, driver behavior, and grid impacts. It includes demographic overlays to ensure equitable deployment in underserved communities. The tool represents a shift from reactive to proactive utility planning and has been used to inform state transportation electrification strategies.
